Sponge iron is produced from the direct reduction of iron ore (Direct Reduced Iron). In this context, iron ore refers to pellets, which undergo direct reduction processes that remove oxygen without the need to melt the iron ore. The appearance of sponge iron is characterized by porous, spherical (pellet) pieces, which is why it is referred to as sponge iron.

Sponge iron has a high iron content, and today it is becoming more prevalent due to the shortage of iron scrap, rising prices, and environmental concerns
